The inspiring Bob Dylan

Back at school today, and it felt nice to be speaking the Japanese again.  It can help a lot to take a break from a language for a while (not too long).  It lets all that info kind of sort itself out in your brain.  But being at school brought out the bad habits I have been trying to kick: overuse of the Internet, not staying on task, mind drifting off to think of more interesting and relevant things…

Specifically I found a copy of three different Bob Dylan interviews off his discussion site.  Hanging out there has been addictive.  The more you delve into Bob, the more fascinating his work becomes.  It speaks to you, especially so if you are American (estatounidense).  The stories of men living their lives in the world, their loves, thinking about what that love means, the magical qualities that language, from the mouth of a poet, can conjure up.  Its inspirational, like a great book of Buddhist poetry.  After reading this stuff I want to go off into the wilderness of Mexico, to a place no gringo has ever set foot, to recount the life lived in the desert.  Its all about people, really, and how we are all related.  The tiny differences between us, between cultures, is what makes travel so interesting, but it wouldn’t be rewarding if we weren’t all fundamentally the same.  At least that’s what I take away from it all.
